Dr. Arushi Kakar was born and raised in Chandigarh, a city in northern India. It was there that she received her dental degree and later received her master’s degree in periodontics.
Upon marriage, she moved to Toronto, Canada where practiced general dentistry. Her passion for periodontics led her to pursue specialty training in the United States and she later completed a three-year residency in periodontics at the University of Indiana School of Dentistry. Dr. Kakar thoroughly enjoyed her periodontics residency and in addition to helping her patients retain their natural teeth with periodontal intervention and maintenance, she has focused on helping her patients with a variety of other periodontal treatment procedures including soft tissue grafting, esthetic gingival recontouring, and replacing hopeless or missing teeth with implants and hard tissue grafting and regeneration, where indicated. She believes in educating her patients about importance of oral health and then partnering with them to achieve the best results.
While in her periodontics residency program, Dr. Kakar performed an investigation on how accurate diagnosis of periodontal disease and how different treatment plans can affect effective outcome-based patient care. She has used the information and knowledge she gained from this investigation to guide her treatment planning of diagnosed periodontal disease and was the first author in the article “Periodontal diagnosis and treatment planning- An assessment of the understanding of the new classification system” that was published in the Journal of Dental Education in 2022.
Dr. Kakar is a dedicated mother and wife and enjoys spending time with her family when she is away from the office. She enjoys painting, gardening, and cooking for her family. She likes to explore new cuisines and is an ardent traveler. Dr. Kakar is fluent in three languages – English, Hindi & Punjabi.
